At Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy, we recognise the integral part technology plays on children’s lives and their futures. Children will learn life skills that will allow them to embrace technology and become fluent digital users. We use and teach children about technology from Nursery to year 6. Our computing curriculum is split into three strands: computer science, information technology and online safety
Computing Scheme
The school follows the scheme ‘Purple Mash’. Each lesson is carefully planned and children’s knowledge is built upon in small steps. It allows children to practise how to use the internet safely in a safe environment. It also provides access to a wide range of apps to develop their computational thinking and their ability to use a range of software.

Parent guides about online safety
We recognise that children are being exposed to a wide range of technology and interactive media from a young age, so we model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely as we recognise that the best prevention for a lot of issues we currently see with technology/social media is through education. We want our pupils to understand that they always have a choice whilst using technology so as a school we model positive uses by utilising a range of technology – especially social media. Therefore, we see Online Safety as an essential and central focus to our curriculum. Online Safety is taught across the school from the Foundation stage through to Year 6 to ensure that all children know how to keep themselves safe online. By doing all of this we hope that all our children will become responsible members of a digital world.
